Peppercorn A1 60163 ‘Tornado’, a true icon of the current railway scene, rejoins the RailRoad range in a new livery scheme: Apple Green with British Railway tender lettering. Designed to be robust this RailRoad model features fully working piston and connecting rods, accurate paint application and DCC capability.

History:
None of Arthur Peppercorn’s powerful ‘A1’ Class ‘Pacifics’ were saved for preservation, the last example being withdrawn from BR in 1966. The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust launched a scheme to create a brand-new example in 1990, with construction carried out at the group’s Darlington base.
Completed in 2008, ‘Tornado’ ran a series of tests at the Great Central Railway, Loughborough whilst in grey undercoat. It was granted a main line certificate in January 2009 and has been a regular performer on charters since, wearing a variety of BR steam-era liveries.
In 2017, ‘Tornado’ became the first steam locomotive to reach 100mph for over 50 years.
